Hudson’s Bay point blanket

This blanket’s got history. The Hudson’s Bay Company traded these blankets with the Natives in exchange for beaver pelts as far back as 1779.  The striped point blankets have definitely become a cultural icon in Canada… however they are also associated with the fur trade’s destructive impact on Canada’s Indigenous people as well as helping spread the small pox epidemic during the 19th century. yikes! Either way, the pattern is intertwined with my childhood memories by way of The Bay… I plan to get one when I go home for christmas (boxing day sale anyone?).

i want a teepee inside the house!

Hudson’s Bay Company is the official outfitter 2010 Olympic games in Vancouver!

They sell vintage ones at The Echo Country Outpost (tomorrow’s post!)
