“lolita” fashion on the runway

RUNWAY PICKS: BRRRRRR

Living in LA has made me a total pussy when it comes to being cold.  It’s time to bundle up like sing sing and take dips in hot coco!

Comme des Garcons in Japan…

Here are some interesting things i noticed…. H&M is insanely popular in Tokyo. That Comme des Garcons x H&M dress is still available in small sizes BUT it’s $599 as opposed to $349…. so no clever ebay resale ploys here. I stopped by ISETAN and tried on the “minnie mousey” dress just for kicks. If i had $3700 to throw away for a garment, I would wear that to the ball. The black and pink dresses are sold out – somewhere out there, some girl is going to look insanely cute for a holiday party. jellybeans! hrm… maybe i’ll start by painting hearts on my oxford flats…

ARAKS

The lingerie line’s claim to fame dates back to 2003′s Lost in Translation, when it was fittingly modeled by Scarlett Johansson’s behind. Since then, ARAKS has expanded to cover also swimwear, ready to wear and an organics line. My dearest friend, Shirley Chien works for the label so we were lucky enough to be backstage at their Spring09 ready to wear show!

Purrr Remake Holiday 2008!!!

Purrr Designer Junko Watanabe‘s Holiday 2008 Collection is to debut at UNIQUE LA @ the California Market Center on December 13th and 14th! For those lucky enough to have run into her booth at the Rose Bowl, you’d know her affordable remake items are the flea market’s gems.   Today, Jamie and I had the pleasure of trying on a few pieces for her Lookbook!!  One of a kind sweater dresses! Hip flannel buttonups! Preppy vest flannel remixes!  Junko’s partner in crime, Mike Damien, was the photographer at the shoot.  On our Flickr are a few outtakes :P   We had so much fun! more pictures to come! You can’t buy her pieces anywhere else so plan on attending UNIQUE LA and don’t miss out!  Her stuff is 100x better than urban renewal!!!!!

RUNWAY PICKS: Christian Lacroix

Not that I will ever own a Christian Lacroix Couture gown but one can dream.  I want a knock-off of that white dress for my wedding!!! Or better yet, for Rococo Rendezvous!

RUNWAY PICKS: Comme des Garcons

We dropped by the Comme des Garcons Guerrilla Store the other day and it was closed!!! Logic tells us the staff is probably just out to lunch since they are having a party this Thursday in celebration of the arrival of the Unholy Matrimony collection as well as new fall arrivals:

October 9th 7-10:30pm
125 W 4th street #106 (entrance through alley)
Los Angeles CA 90013

By now, you’ve probably all heard of the Comme des Garcons for H&M collaboration. Is it just me or is this $349 dress totally Gothic Lolita material?  They got something for the boys too.  Be ready to camp out Nov 13th.

RUNWAY PICKS: Viktor & Rolf

We’ve always had a thing for skinny men with thick black-rimmed glasses.  What if they were also Dutch, multitalented international high-fashion sensations?  And did I mention they come in a pair!

If you haven’t already, visit the label’s web site to view the freshly launched (as of Oct 2) debut of their Spring 2008 “web show”.  If we could have our Dec 4th party anywhere it would be at their virtual grand salon with that exact music playing in the background with the whispers and all. (check out the library too!)

We are particularly in love with the Fall 06 collection. The fishnet fencing masks were brilliant, adding instant depth to classic Parisian staples. In their own words, they were aiming for a “rigorous kind of elegance” and they’ve certainly achieved above and beyond.

RUNWAY PICKS: Alexander McQueen

Leave it to Alexander McQueen to come up with such a tear duct activating collection (Fall 2008).  Ivory petticoats, fine lace, gold encrusted elegance shrouded with mystique – a Gothic Lolita princess’ dream come true.
