The Edwardian Ball LA January 31st, 2009

I’m flipping through Edward Gorey books as we speak looking for inspiration for what to wear to this thing.  The Edwardian Ball, in Los Angeles for the first time, in historic Tower Theatre in downtown LA. Let’s round up the troops and start planning!!!  I want something combining Pierrot, an Edwardian Gothic mistress and a circus sideshow!

Valley of the Dolls

Valley of the Dolls along with ~200 other doll enthusiasts invaded Royal/T today!  8 dolls were raffled off – and yes, there were 8 distinct, VERY audible screams of excitement. The Valley of the Dolls pop-up store will be at Royal/T for a while so if you want to get your hands on a Pullip, Blythe, Taeyang, Dal, J-Doll and Ai Doll, come on by.  Blythe is still our favorite but I think Pullip is the “hot” thing now.  It was only a few months ago when we spent a crapton of money on those Re-ment outfits… we deviced this system where we weighed the Re-ment box to make sure we weren’t getting the same outfits each time. HAHA. dorks.

Angelic Pretty event

Had the pleasure of sitting at designer Maki’s table at the Cosplay Oneesan Angelic Pretty event….  Aside from having the most perfect complexion, Maki also has the cutest and most ladylike mannerisms.  I asked her what her favorite american brands were and she said Betsey Johnson and Tarina Tarantino.  Please visit the Cosplay Oneesan homepage for official information.

JapanLA photos are up on Royal/T flickr!

Pierre Auroux’s photos of the JapanLA Halloween Lolita Tea Party event are up on Royal/T flickr!

The weekend begins now…

There is an insane amount of things going on this weekend and ZIPPERCUT will be out and about town promoting ROCOCO RENDEZVOUS. First off, I have my arsenal of credit cards ready for PAPER magazine’s 24-hour department store event. Opening ceremony! Sophmore! Jeremy Scott! Show Pony! I can’t read on as I feel a heart attack coming! Royal/T has a booth there too!

Then of course you all know about PMX and the long awaited Angelic Pretty event. I will be working at the Royal/T booth at PMX on Saturday serving tea so be sure to come by and say hi!

shaburoke

it’s all rico’s fault. he made a bunch of lynchberg lemonades and the rest was history.  we cheered for our new HALF black president. and we cheered for broiled beef. and we cheered for “we’re not gonna take it” by twisted sister.  i dunno what else to write because i’m at 0.15 right now.PhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucket

LA Times covering JapanLA’s halloween teaparty event

The blurb for our picture is hilarious!!!! DORKNUTSSSS!
“We’re scientists by day and then we dress up like this at night,” said Camille Vergara (right), who is a biotechnology scientist. Mandy Ma is a chemical engineer and, on weekends, a waitress at Royal/T.”

JapanLA’s Gothic Lolita Halloween Party @ Royal/T

We’ve uploaded our set of pictures (courtesy of Camille’s boo and photographer Jim Gleason) from the JapanLA Gothic Lolita Halloween Party on our flickr (look to the right for link–>).  The spirit of halloween (and Clocky too!) were with all and everyone beamed in their fabulous outfits.  We had so much fun and am so glad we don’t have to wait long till we see you all again at the next lolita event.  I’m excited to see the Neil Sharum photos. He did a spooky one for the Royal/T staff it should be fantastic!!!

Rose Bowl Flea Market: Purrr Vintage Remake

We scored big at the Rose Bowl Flea Market today!! Bought a bunch of cute poofy skirts that have a lot of lolita potential. So excited!!!  I also met a designer named Junko.  Her vintage remake creations under the label Purrr are super cute: think plaid and big bows, two of our favorite fashion accents.  She will be at the Rose Bowl again next month on November 9th so be sure to check her out then! So it turns out she is really good friends with Lun*na Menoh, who is the fabulous being that designed the Royal/T maid costume! What a small world :P

Love Psychedelico @ the Troubadour

We went to the show Thursday night at the Troubadour.  Here’s a little clip of one of Camille’s favorites, “These Days”.

Tune in Tokyo/International Pop Conspiracy

Photobucket
We went to Tune in Tokyo last Thursday and had a grand ol time. We met several interesting characters with similar interests and gabbed the night away. The organizers are holding another event under International Pop Conspiracy tomorrow which is in our opinion going to be even better since we are huge fans of french pop. Check it out!

Unfortunately, we are going to be at the Love Psychedelico show so we’ll have to wait till the next Tune in Tokyo (December 18th)!

Gothic Lolita Fashion Show

Zippercut was present at the front row of the Gothic Lolita Fashion Show at the West Hollywood Book Fair put on by Tokyopop and JapanLA in celebration of the 3rd volume of Gothic Lolita Bible.

(for best result, watch it in high quality! *select option on youtube site*)

We loved all the big blond hair and the dresses (especially the Innocent World numbers!).  For more photos, check out Michelle Nguyen’s (coordinating editor of Gothic Lolita Bible) blog
